Perfect Presents

Did you ever open a gift that, if it could vocalize, would scream your name?

Sometimes there's something you didn't even know existed, you'd never seen anything like, but the second you open it, you know it was meant to be yours.

My sister gave me this box for Christmas. It's heavy with a beautiful bronze finish, felted interior (ideal for stashing, oh, I don't know... chocolate?), a pile of pens on top, and is engraved with the quote THE WRITER MUST WRITE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY, NOT SPEAK IT. - Ernest Hemingway

I'm still speechless. And it looks perfect at its place of honor in my writing space.

What did you receive that couldn't have been more perfect?

Janna, that is absolutely beautiful and so befitting!

My husband has lavished me this year with every writing tool I could ever dream of. Valentine's Day he presented me with a luxurious laptop! Now for Christmas a precious netbook for easy travel when I don't feel up to lugging my laptop! He makes all my dreams come true!

That is awesome! Your sister did good. My mom gave me my deceased grandmother's watch this year. I keep looking at it and picturing it on her wrist. Now I must find a way to live up to the woman she was. It was a perfect gift me.

Hmm... this year my parents found a chair that I've wanted for years. It'll sit in my first apartment. I was so happy I sat in it for 20 minutes and my mom made me get up so she could sit in it!

Love that box!!!! That is beautiful and true testiment that your family knows who and what you are. That's awesome.

Anything my kids have made me have been the best.

Outside of that, the best gift I ever received was small but meant everything to me. It wasn't for Christmas, it was Mother's day, my first one. Just a custom mouse pad with my baby's picture. That was 15 years ago and I'm still using it right this second.

Other than that, the next best one was when my husband and I had just met, a teddy bear sprayed with my husband's cologne that he broke into my house to leave in my room so that when I got home--from his house---it would be there. That took some ingenuity...and courage!

What a thoughtful gift for a writer! Kudos to your sister.

I've been given several lovely gifts but I think what brought me the greatest joy this Christmas was just being able to spend time with our daughter and her family... to watch the grandchildren interact as they built gingerbread houses, played board games, read, or just sat around with us grownups and joined the conversation. It's so seldom that we can be all together that it was a precious week.

My perfect gift was a netbook from my parents. I still don't like that it's a PC, but I can deal.
