To Write It

"My partner listened quietly, as he always does when I tell him all the details of the things I've seen. He knows I have a need to tell stories. But whenever I say them out loud, there is something missing for me. To really tell a story, I need to write it. It's then that I understand what it is that I'm really trying to say. I find the deeper meaning--and the deeper satisfaction.

The same is true of many others..."

the Art of Writing True
`
I am one of those others.
`
It's why I write. And why I dream of sharing my writing with others, aim for publication, so that I may understand myself, and thus be truly understood by you.

I agree, before I can tell a story, I have to write it down.

Me too Jana! I get much more satisfaction out of writing my stories!

Ditto! It comes out completely different on paper. Like the details were hiding in a closet till the pen comes out, then they run and jump in. LOL.

Hi Janna - I followed you back over and I'm glad I did :) Great blog!

I'm one of those others too. Spoken words are fleeting - in so many situations I prefer the written!

I know what you mean, but you said it so much better than I could have!

I like to write because it gives me a chance to say what I meant to say the first time the way that I would have said it if I had been quick-witted enough. (don't ask how many times I changed the sentence above...and I'm still not sure it's right....gack!!)

Wonderful quote. I think I'm one of those others too. It's a blessing to find sweet friends of like mind. :) Thanks for sharing, Janna.

Oh, me too, Janna!

And I so love the way you take words and weave them around our hearts, like a gentle-handed mother wraps a warm scarf around her loved ones to keep the cold out and the love in.

Sorry for the run-on!

Love you,
Jen

I'm the same way as well. This Elizabeth Berg book is one I go to when I need an encouraging voice. It's one of my favorites - up there with Anne Lamott's and Pat Schneider's and Stephen King's.
