Do you remember your school's alma mater?
Really think, now. If so, post it in comments.
*Thanks to everyone who participated in our progressive story. I'll be posting the finished piece on Wednesday or Friday. Be sure to come back!
*Soon my first article will be available online at Rose & Thorn Literary Journal, with whom I accepted a staff position last month. Exciting! I'll share a link when it's up.
*I'll also have a guest post at Linda Hoye's place, My Own Velvet Room. Stay tuned!
Here's to alma mater,
ReplyDeleteNorthtown we're true.
Hornets so loyal,
fighting on for you--rah rah rah!
We will cheer for Northtown
where e'er we be,
Fight Hornets, fight fight fight
for N--K--C.
I can still sing it, too. Crazy.
Not only do I remember it, but I wasn't even a cheerleader & I know how to do it. Thanks for getting it stuck in my head for the rest of the day. :P
ReplyDelete"St Anthony, St Anthony, we proudly wave our gold & blue...Undying faith & loyalty will be our pledge to God & You....Oh Gem of Valley Isle for thee..."
*sniff* G
I was in a lot of vocal music, and so we sang ours often enough that it stuck. :)
ReplyDeleteYour welcome.
I haven't a clue. As much as I love music, I guess my school song just didn't do it for me!
ReplyDeleteOMG, and i was in the singing group in HS too. I totally forgot it!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what it was. But we were the mighty Bridgeport Bulldogs and our colors were purple and gold!
ReplyDeleteWhat's an alma mater? Is it that song we're supposed to know? (just guessing because I see you posted something that looks like a song)
ReplyDeleteI guess my answer is no. LOL
I'm back in the same hometown and my daughter goes to that school...and I can tell you the fight song word for word but the school song? I was in the band and played it and never had to sing it. And now SHE'S in the band, so same thing. To this day, I sit in the stands at the football games and hum it because I still don't know the words. LOL
ReplyDeleteWe are the Port Neches-Groves High School Indians, our fight song is called Cherokee, they call the school The Reservation. And our colors are purple and white.
And you are on staff at Rose and Thorn??????? Tell me! How did that come about and what are you doing? How exciting!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to say that I forgot it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't a clue.
ReplyDeleteOh, let us know when your article is up. No I don't remember my alma mater. Is that bad? I must be too old. ...sigh....
ReplyDeleteNo, I sang it once and had no idea what we were even singing about. I didn't play sports so maybe that would've helped. :O)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have a clue. Interesting question, though. Congrats on your new position. Great news!
ReplyDeleteI can remember so little about my high school, it's embarrassing. I moved out, moved away, never went back, never even looked back! Probably says something about me, but I'm not sure what.
ReplyDeleteNo idea. Not sure I even knew it when I was in high school!
ReplyDeleteI know we were the Temple Christian Patriots, our colors were red, white and blue.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I got.
Onward Cougars,
ReplyDeleteOnward Cougars
We'll be number One!
Time's a-waisting,
Can't you hear it,
Til the game is won!
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
Onward Cougars,
Onward Cougars
Fighting for our name!
So fight Cougars,
Fight, fight, fight
And Win the Game!
HEY!
OMGosh, I still remember the tune and the dance!!!! Now I'm gonna have this stuck in my head all day long. Gee, thanks...hahaha, just kidding.
~KK~
Of course, I was in band, Choir, and on the Cheerleading Squad, so I kind of had triple exposure...maybe that's why it stuck.
ReplyDelete~KK~
Oh no, oh no. I couldn't STAND my alma mater, but here goes,
ReplyDelete"here's to my dear Covina High
Here's to the red and white,
Here's to the boys who woooooon the game,
Who fought with all their might.
Here's to the girls forever true,
True as the stars above,
Here's to my dear Covina High
Here's to the school I lllllllooooooove."
NOT. Now if I keep running this over and over you're going to owe me one.
Love,

Oh, I can't remember. Something about red and blue and the mighty mustangs. That is so sad isn't it:(
ReplyDeleteSchool we love, West Nottingham,
ReplyDeleteGod shed his grace on thee.
All hail to thee our alma mater,
Long live thy liberty.
Okay, I may have fudged the last line, but I still know the tune.
Congrats on the new position!
Oh my gosh, no, I don't remember my school's alma mater. Isn't that sad?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the article and the new position! Very exciting!
I don't remember it - but I attended two high schools due to a move. I'll blame it on that:)
ReplyDeleteNope. Can't bring it to mind. 40 plus years - too long buried.
ReplyDeleteBig congrats on your piece in Rose & Thorn, and your position. I'm so glad for you. Off to check out your guest post.
