Somewhere between my place and yours are avenues and terraces, highways and interstates. Hills and valleys, and maybe oceans, too. We are separated by states, some of us by countries, but also by lifetimes and lifestyles.
Distance.
We have mismatched backgrounds, careers, beliefs and value systems. You may like red, when I like blue. I'm a coffee and tea person, and you? You might enjoy beer and soda. I like to be inside, whereas you're outdoorsy. Our tastes are different, our styles, our preferences.
Difference.
Yet still, here we are, together again. We are drawn together, no? Within each other we find something we didn't know we were missing, a common ground despite the variances. A similar dream, a parallel path, something to relate to.
And suddenly, there's not so much between my place and yours.
Isn't this nice, this connection at the click of a button? Isn't it awesome how no distance is too far, no difference is too strong?

OMG, you like BLUE? We can't be friends. ;)
Nice post, Janna. I was just thinking about this last night. My husband and I were out to dinner and I started talking about my online friends and how much I know about their lives. He didn't really get it until he met some AW people when they were in town and then a light bulb clicked. Oh yeah! Real people! With different and interesting backgrounds!
Yes.
Beautifully spoken Janna! And I had you pegged for an outdoors gal because of the hat :)
Loved this post!!
The internet is fabulous. It's given me the opportunity to meet other writers that I would have never met. And it's given me friends. Friends that I will hopefully meet one day, but even if not, I know that they are there at the click of the mouse. And that is awesome.
Love this post!
Only met one of the bloggers, but feel like I've got some of the best friends I could ever have, even more like family, out here in blogville!
Great post. This is a bit like what I wanted to convey in mine today, but yours is so much more eloquent :)
I love the writing community blogging gives me. I've met so many wonderful people and writers and learned so much. Ever bit of it has been worth it.
Good post...Just about sums up what blogging has done for me and so many others.
Best wishes
Ayak xx
Wendy - LOL! My husband teases me about the same thing; that no one is "real." Someday, he'll know the difference. :)
Strange Fiction - Ah, I tricked you. ;) We were on vacation in Florida when that picture was taken. I have to have hats in the sun!
Nadine - Ditto.
Donna - I couldn't agree more!
Cindy - You're post was great!
Thanks, Ayak. :)
It is awesome indeed!!!
This is so true! I feel more connected to some of my blog friends who I've never met than I do to people I see on a daily basis. It's amazing what having something in common can do!
Yes indeed it is, especially since my daughter will be going to college before I know it.
Your posts are so deep and meaningful! Perhaps I need to fine tune mine.
You are right... I like the internet because it has brought me together with some of the best people ever! (especially you!)
:D
Janna! I'm already bummed I can't see you while I'm here. Quit making it worse. :)
I often marvel at the connections I've made through a series of wires and signals floating through the air.
You are so poetic! ANd yes-- I absolutely love all of our connections:) they make my day!
Melissa - I knew you and I were similar thinkers. ;)
Lazy Writer - Me, too!
Becca - That kind of connection will be important, won't it?
Nonsense, JLC. I like your posts. And it took me a long time to find my post. Just do what feels most comfortable for you!
I know, Mel. *sniff* I wish I could hop a flight to see you.
Terri - Same here. I don't know what I'd do without these connections. All of you.
Yes, the more I check out other blogs the more common ground I find I have with others. Kind'a like a cozy blanket. (I mean, for the few cold days we have here in FL.) :) Thank goodness someone invented the computer!
Nice thoughts in that post!
Amazing how many connections there are in this world.
What a beautiful post. And true.
Karen - What would we do without computers? I'd perhaps not pursue writing if I had to do it all in longhand.
lakeviewer - Makes it seem both a gargantuan and teeny place, all at once.
Jill - Thank you. :)
So true. Now the biggest question is.. do we take that for granted? Good post.
It's hard to imagine life without computers. I mean I was there once, but it seems a million years ago. I really do feel as thought I've friends through blogging...people I'd actually like to hang out with in 'real' life.
True stuff you write.

YES, it truly is awesome! Sending cyber huggage: (((((Janna)))))
I remember my mom teaching me this when I was struggling w/ a difficult friendship in high school. She said that friends can come from anywhere and everywhere and sometimes the best ones are found in the farthest places...we just have to be willing to search for them.
Good advice then and still appliable now :)
Cel - Hmm. It's a great question, and I'd have to think about it. In what ways do you mean? Is it a bad thing?
FG - I take that as an awesome compliment, thank you! Because in my writing - even my fiction - I want to share the truth.
Angie - Aw, the huggage is another bonus!
Tess - She was right. :)
What a great post and so true. Between blogging, Facebook, etc. we make connections with people we may never see in person. We gain so much from each other when we have open minds and hearts.

It IS nice! Kind of strange, but nice.
Yep. I love my mousy. :-) Click, click and I'm chatting with friends. :-)
It is a wonderful connection. I left all my friends back in Romania. I don't know what I'd do without the internet.
Diane - I really do agree.
K - Strange? Who you callin' strange?
Jessica - Saves a stay-at-home mom's day, doesn't it? ;)
Lori - It's a special blessing for you, then!
Amen, Sister! What we have in common binds us. The differences keep things interesting. This is a lovely piece of writing.
I take quite a lot from the connection. Thanks, Deb!
