Do you have a mentor?

Tell me about him or her.

You can read about mine here.

OH, great question! I have four: Jesus, who is wisdom personified. I don't always like His to the point observations, but He never steers me wrong. He has my best interests at heart, so I trust Him. I'm trying to learn the "Obey" part of that song, too.

Patti Lacy, an incredible novelist and woman of God who has poured her soul into mine by advice, prayer, editing, and general wide shoulder therapy.

Cammie Quinn, another writer soulmate whose voice is like John Steinbeck. That's right. But she has the most humble heart, and gets me. Her words of encouragement are always spot on.

Clella Camp, who first taught me about proposals, conferences, elevator pitches, and branding. She believes in me even when I don't believe in myself.

I'm blessed by the Maker of all good things.

Besides Jeanette who's my long distance support, my close to home one is Elaine.

Thank you Jeanette, but being friends with Jeanette and believing in her certainly is not difficult.
She is SUCCESS in the making and truly a woman after God's heart. Love helping her. Also thanks for sending me to this blog Jeanette.

Oh I hear you about our friend Liz. That's what we call her, right?! :D

The ladies at Novel Matters have been terrific. Jeanette. Patti Lacy. There are so many. Jody Hedlund is like my career coach, always peppering me w/ advice.

My mom. And I have life mentors as well, ladies who are older and wiser than I pay attention to.

Love this question and your answer!

A notable one for me would be my friend, Vickie Herrold.

She is a gal that I met at a church we attended about 19 years ago. She has had many struggles and disappointments in life and chose to follow closely after God to find answers and a way to live a life pleasing to the Lord.

She is a little older than I am and it has been my pleasure to watch her cope with the changing stages of parenting, marriage, family and life just before I arrive there.

After our car accident, she helped me clean my house once a month for a couple YEARS. She talked with me and listened while I sorted through the rubble of a shattered family and feelings.

And prayer, oh, she is a prayer warrior.I have learned MUCH from her about prayer, the Lord and what He has to say to us.

We are still friends, she continues to share her wisdom with me, and her prayers still availeth much.
She has been a special kiss on the cheek from God!

A writing mentor? Not really. But I have some really great writing friends!

I've found people who are great to work with, and who have given me great advice and guidance, but no one--yet--I consider to be my mentor.

No mentor here--a great weakness for me.

Off to read about yours.

Before I'd ever read Elizabeth Berg, two people told me my writing reminded them of her. So off to the library I went. All I can say is: "I wish!."

I find wonderful bloggers like you who encourage me to keep going creatively in many interesting ways. Thank you!

Really, Jeanette is a mentor to me, as is Wendy and Cammie.

That's the cool thing when you soulmate writer together. You always get more out of it--whichever way it's going!!

As you can see, writing and math definitely do NOT go together:)

GREAT post!!!

I do. MaryAnn Diorio has long been one who encouraged me in my writing. I respect her work, her ethics, and kind and gentle manner. She's a treasure!

Susan Reinhardt is another wonderful writing friend I look to for many things. She was the catalyst for developing my blog. What a great encourager she is! And that wide shoulder therapy Jeanette spoke of - Susan's got it.

Good question. Happy weekend!
Blessings,
Karen :)

You know, there are women and men that I admire, but I have to say I honestly don't have a mentor. If we are speaking of the kind of person that one would be able to consult or seek advice from on an intimate basis -- via phone, in person, etc. I don't have one of those. I haven't really sought one out though. I think after I finish the MA program, I may find one naturally.
