I don't think I ever wore plaid pants...but I'll have to verify that with my mom. I'm pretty sure my older brother did, though, as he was born in 1972 and probably couldn't escape it.
Oh man, I identified with that essay so much. My mom loved to sew, so she would make me these frilly dresses with little matching jackets, and none of them had fewer than four colors. I looked like an explosion in a Skittles factory.
