Whatcha Readin'
I got tired of serious fiction.
I'd been reading too much of the literary fiction, and yes, women's fiction, and I needed a break. So I read a cute little (very thick) political romantic comedy from Kristin Gore. (Al Gore's daughter is seriously smart and seriously witty.) I liked it quite a bit, even if I couldn't get too enthralled in the White House details.
Now I'm reading the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich. It's about time, really. And I'm loving the books.
Evanovich is so cool. She's smart and hilarious, her stories are fast-paced, and she really knows how to draw you in. Her characters rock. They're relatable and LOL entertaining, even if the predicaments we find them in are pretty unlikely heaped on top of more unlikely. Tension is great, the suspense, all of it.
Have you read any of the Plum series? Who are your favorite characters?
If you're a writer, have you read Evanovich's book on the craft, HOW I WRITE? I read it last year, and it's a good companion to all the standards, ON WRITING and BIRD BY BIRD, etc., (just with a different flavor). Check it out if you haven't.
Tell me, what are you reading these days?

I may need to step back from the serious fiction too. I'm in a reading funk lately. Nothing is resonating with me. So the answer is, I've started 5 books and finished none of them. ha. Maybe the plum series will be next on my list!
Thank you for the reading suggestions!
The Year of Broken Glass, Joe Denham
Have you read any of Alexander McCall Smiths' Isabel Dalhousie novels? I love them. I'm on my third, they're very easy to read, very light and enjoyable. While it isn't what I'm readying RIGHT NOW...I am either going to start on Wench: A Novel or The Postmistress. I'll let ya know. ;)
Hmmm...too serious, I'm sure. The Republic (Plato) for a class I'm taking and King Lear for a class I'm teaching...
Nope. I've never read the Plum series, but now I want to take a trip to the library. Sometimes I need a break from serious books too, and when I do, I usually read a book from the Shopaholic series or maybe a romance by Jude Deveraux. Those always keep me entertained for a few hours of mindless reading. Sometimes we need mindless reading, at least I do. ;-)
Happy Friday to you!

Just read The Doctor's Lady by Jody Hedlund - which was excellent. That girl knows how to write a book. And for the record, I don't read many historical fictions. I'm also on my second of Kristen Lamb's books on social media.
I didn't know about How I Write. Must go find it. Thanks!
I just reread The Help, because I heart it so.
I will check out the one you mentioned, I'm always looking for a good book.
