To Search Or Not To Search

It occurred to me today, just minutes ago in fact, that nothing would stop me from beginning an agent search now. Though my edits aren't done (though they're going well!) - and I haven't constructed a query yet - I could certainly start perusing agencies and making my pick list. Right?

And then I got to thinking, if I did actually find the nerve to go ahead and query, the prospect of responses would drive me to push through my edits.

I'm not committing here. But I think I will, in whatever spare time (yeah, right) I may be able to take hostage, give it some serious thought.

To be continued...

Make a pick list, sure. querytracker.net could help you there.

I hope it's because I'm tired and not reading straight, but are you actually thinking of querying before you're finished editing. Please tell me you didn't say that...

It was hypothetical, I'm pretty sure. Right?

It's funny, I was just thinking about the same thing this morning. Get out of my head, Janna!

I'm editing, too, and not quite ready to send out queries, but getting a good list together would probably be wise.

Have you written your query yet? I might put one together soon and post it in SYW on AW. There are a few posters who always have insightful comments.

lol!

No, I haven't done a query yet, either. The idea is sooo daunting to me. I really need to start thinking on it, though.

Good luck to us both!

I wrote and re wrote my query and pitch as I was both writing and editing each manuscript- it takes AGES to get the right wording - I would start putting your letter together now...
Even when you are agented you still have to write that one paragraph hook- trust me - I spent far more time on that than my revisions LOL...don't wait until you are ready to query- do it now...

Thanks so much, Pat!

I'm up to about 4 pages of different versions of my query letter. Just the hook part. I think they have gotten marginally better over the months...

Great for you!

I should say that though I'm daunted by the idea of a query, I'm not worried. I always seem to do my best work when "pressured" and I hope the query will prove the same.
