You Love Me, You Really Love Me!

I know Stina does, anyway. She has bestowed upon me the Your Blog is Fabulous Award, and I kindly thank her for it. Makes a girl's day, Stina!

And so, in response to the award, I'm to confess 5 things I'm addicted* to. I have to admit, they may come as no surprise, but here we go anyway.

1) Iced mochas. (See what I mean? You all knew that already.) But I've been shifting my addiction lately, from Starbucks' pre-bottled frappuccinos to a homemade version. I haven't tweaked it to perfection yet, but it's saving me loads of money and hitting the spot well enough. I'd still prefer a Starbucks Java Chip or even the iced mocha McDonald's sells now, but I can't run out each time I want one.

2) Chapstick. When my lips are chapped, I can't leave them alone. And when I can't leave them alone, they remain chapped. Hence: A chapstick addiction. (I have made the connection that it's most likely to happen when I'm deep in thought. But that's something I can't change... because I'm always deep in thought!)

3) Clean hands. If I were to get any kind of OCD diagnosis, it would be due to chronic hand-washing. I cannot stop myself, especially if I'm in the kitchen, messing around with things. And if I'm out in public, where I can't wash? Well then, I'm in trouble.

4) Feedback. From family, friends, strangers; as long as it's positive - and about my writing - I'll take it. All writers need reassurance that they're on the right path (although as I think about that statement, it's probably true for the entire human race), and I'm no exception. Bring it on!

5) People Magazine. I've been a subscriber since my firstborn was a baby, and I can't tell you how excited I get to retrieve it from the mailbox on Fridays (or how disappointed I am if it's late). Sure, it can be a superficial magazine, but that's kind of the point for me. It's a break from life; a chance to sit back and disconnect. On the other hand, they talk about everyday people, too, like you and me, and they offer reviews (on books! I particularly like the debut novelists...), among other things.
`
And next I'm supposed to pass the award on to five fabulous bloggers myself. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoy far more than five, as evidenced by my blog roll and the list of those I follow. Maybe it's a cop-out, but I can't do it. Can't narrow it down to just five. (If you'd like, though, feel free to pass this sucker on!)
`
So instead, tell me a thing or two you're addicted to. What can't you "live without"?

*I'd like to point out that I use the term addiction lightly. We all know it implies a serious problem, and I deal with my own concerns over how much I want or rely on certain things. It's an important thing to be aware of.

I have to confess to many addictions!

Writing. Just can't stop myself whether it's on a napkin or menu in a restaurant, the church bulletin during service, the back of the grocery list while shopping and many other unlikely places!

I'm addicted to hugs. I love to hug and be hugged. Can't get enough!

Can't live without pets. I'm addicted to loving up on mine and everyone elses.

Every day I have to satisfy my addiction to nature, whether taking pics or going for walks.

And last, but not least, I'm addicted to reading and commenting on my blog friends sites!

Mine would be flossing and gum.

I guess they go hand in hand, don't they? :-)

Janna Leadbetter said...

Donna, those would have worked very well as a second list for me!

And Jewel, flossing is something I could definitely be better about. :)

Congrats on the award! ;-)
Mmmmm, I LOVE Java Chip Frappuccinos.

Dunkin Donuts Regular Coffee, Walking always, writing. P.S. When you're in public and can't wash hands? I always have a small bottle of Purell in my purse for just that reason!

I am addicted to everything in it's place. Since our move...I've been going a little crazy with boxes sitting around and things out of sorts.

I am addicted to coffee. Always have a pot on when I'm at home.

I do like Joanne, I keep a small bottle of germ-x in my purse and always a bottle on my desk at work.

Loved your list.

Oh my gosh. I completely understand the People magazine addiction - I was that way for years with Us magazine. I started getting it when it was a monthly mag and kept on for quite a while. I actually made a pact with a friend to cancel our subscriptions and they continued to send it for over a year. Enablers...

I also have a chapstick/lotion/water addiction. Dryness is my enemy.

#3. Pocket size hand sanitizer for handwashing when out in public. Can be used in a pinch to clean public toilet seats. Don't leave home without it.

You and Napoleon Dynamite with your Chapstick. hehe.

Congrats on the lovely blog bling! I'm addicted to C.O.F.F.E.E., blogging, writing, poetry, reading, napping...okay, I better stop now. :)

Feedback - Janna, you are an awesome writer, you have da skillz, and are so talented, gifted, and you show a major amount of tenacity and determination! :)

*Runs out to subscribe to People*

My addictions - Constant Comment, cookies (I don't keep them in the house for that reason), Facebook, procrastination, and self-deprecation. (Last one suggested by hubby, I complain about myself too much.)

Hi Janna, I'm new to your blog and loving it. :)

I totally identify with the chapstick addiction. I don't think I'm ever without it on my lips.

Other things to which I'm addicted:
Water-- I carry around 24 ounces, filtered from my sink in a nalgene bottle all the time. ALL the time. that's not to say I drink 24 ounces every day, but I have to have it with me, just in case.
My email-- *sigh* I work in a super-connected office. Sometimes wish I didn't have this one (my husband does too)
Chocolate-- I couldn't live without it.
My husband-- same as chocolate

We do love you! Other things I also love:

chapstick (can totally relate)

Internet (not now sweetie, mommy's on the computer...)
sugar (any kind)
scrapbooking (but then, you know that)

I'm addicted to chapstick, too. Must have it with me at all times. (As well as a kleenex in my pocket!).

Janna Leadbetter said...

Jessica - I'd love to have one with you!

Joanne - I'm sporadic about having a bottle of that. I need to be more consistent!

Ang - I can understand! Getting settled into a new home probably amplifies it for you. :)

Melanie - Dryness beware. ;)

Janna Leadbetter said...

Janet - I've never even thought to use it for public toilets, but that's genius! (Really, would I expect anything different from you? ;)

Angie - LOL! And by all means, continue with your list if you like. :)

Turkey - You are making me feel REAL good today. :) Thank you.

scarlethue - Welcome! Come back any time. :) I'm trying to be much better about water, though I'm into 8 oz at a time. ;)

Kelly - Aw, love you too! And you bring up other great things. Man, I wish this list had called for 10 or 15 items...

Kimmi - Funny! I'd have never guessed gummi bears. :)

Melissa - Us and our kleenex, huh? :D

Necessity is the mother of invention. Especially when mixed with desperation. And that is all I care to say about that. ;o)

in response to your post on my blog:

Imitrex. It seems to work most of the time, although to tell the truth, when I see my aura coming on, I take two ibuprofens, my imitrex, and I down a big Dr. Pepper (they say caffeine helps). Sometimes I'll take a couple aleve later too if I feel like I need to. This is part of the reason I'm so afraid to get one-- no telling what all those things mixing up in my system all at once are going to do to me in the long run! But at the time it's worth it to get rid of that pain.

We have MANY similar addictions!

Some others are DaVinci Sugarfree Chai, Extra gum, BLOGS, our kitty-witties, too many TV shows this season, True North snacks.

Janna Leadbetter said...

Capri - Hi! Oregon chai is what I have if there's no coffee in the house. :) And I LOVE the True North almond clusters. Mm mmm!

Janna Leadbetter said...

Whoops! I missed a couple...

Janet - Your secret (whatever it is) is safe with me. ;)

scarlethue - going back to your blog to respond again...

FringeGirl - Oh no! Now that I think about it, my subcription's almost out on that one!

Jenni - ROFL! Too funny!

I love that you love feedback--I'll try to get it anyway I can with my writing even if I have to tie someone down and to make them listen!
Honestly, if you ever want another set of eyes, feel free to ask for what my opinion is worth!

Janna Leadbetter said...

Thank you, Terri! I really appreciate that, and will certainly keep it in mind.

I won't touch anything in a public restroom, so while I wash my hands at home, I will not wash my hands in a public restroom. I cannot, under a pointed gun, wash my hands in a public restroom.

I do carry purell in my purse, though. And I stick my hand in my sleeve before touching a door or anything else.

So that's my quirk of the day!

BiPolar Wife said...

I think I'm addicted to the people I love. I feel the need several times a day to touch base with somebody- husband, kids (thank you God for text messaging!), friends, whoever. I crave that connection and closeness and sometimes it does feel like an addiction. But hey, I'll take it!

Janna Leadbetter said...

Spy - I try to avoid restroom doorknobs, too, sometimes opening with a paper towel. :)

MichaƩle - I think that's a wonderful addiction!
