Hmmm interesting question, and mainly because there are so many to choose from.
I would choose Fergie, she is very versitile, she sings about what she wants, she has done her own music and is in the black eyed peas so when she needs support she has it.
Seeing that I DO sing like my mother and that is not a good thing, it would have to be someone else. Gravel in the throat and sultry, please. Who would that be?
OHOH, you said Patsy. I would definitely be in for that voice! Or maybe Margo Timmins from the Cowboy Junkies. If you don't know them you should Youtube Mining for Gold or Misguided Angel.
From the male perspective: That's a tough question for early in the morning. The first singer that popped in my head was Van Morrison. I like the soulfulness of his sound.
Thanks for the visit and the sweet comment. About your question: Norah Jones, bluesy, moody, sweet and tender, all wrapped together. Her "what am i to you?" gives me the chills.
Martina McBride. I actually hate country music, but her voice is amazing. Or Whitney Houston, back from the day. Both very powerful voices. I can carry a tune pretty well but I don't have the power they have.
Does it have to be just one person? Singing is one of my favourite things. I'd want to sing like Kate Bush, because I would love to have written all her early songs. Like Prince, for his sass. Julie Andrews, for her clarity (and because it would work with my very English accent) Tom Waits, for when I have a cold.

What a fun post!
Anyone who can break glass with amplified vocals--like the guy on Mythbusters did. It would just be a great bet winning trick.
My first thought was Christina Agulera (how Do you spell that) but I like Shania and Leann Rimes too.
Awesome answers!
For me, it would be someone like Karen Carpenter or Patsy Cline, with such a smooth and rich alto voice.

I'll add a little Stevie Nicks to the mix, to rock on with my writing!
Susan Boyle. Not only do I adore her voice, I admire her courage.
I do sing, and one person compared me to Norma Zimmer. But you are way too young to know who she is.
Barbra Streisand - hands down.

No question: Ghandi. I hear that man could bring down the house with his rendition of Sweet Home Alabama.
Oh, MYYYY! I change favorite songs about every week.
My current?
Corinne Bailey Rae. "Put your Records on."
I hear exuberancy, depth, and that zest for life that we girls have when we get together with soulmates and cut loose!!!
Would like to have a soulmate chat with you?
Can you fly in to Normal for a writers meeting???LOL
I have no great aspirations. I would sing like myself, only better. : )
Alison Krauss. She has this amazing, unique voice. Oh, I'd love to sing like her! (I currently sound like a dying cat.)
I would LOVE to sing like Pink...her voice has so much soul and I love the raw edge to it when she hits some of her big notes.
Meatloaf.
Damn, that guy can belt 'em out. :)
Adam
Well, hmm. That is a good question.
I'd have to say Christina Aguilera (sp?). I think she has an incredible range.
Nicole C. Mullen. She has the voice of angel and sings praises to God in a way I never could. :-)
Barry Gibb!! Hahaha...
Martina McBride. I actually hate country music, but her voice is amazing. Or Whitney Houston, back from the day. Both very powerful voices. I can carry a tune pretty well but I don't have the power they have.
Anyone on Broadway & I'd dance, dance, dance!
Sarah MacLachlan. I love the fragility and beauty of her voice. Great blog, btw!
Pink, 'cause she can sing softly or she can belt out lyrics. I love her voice. I like Jennifer Knapp's voice too.
I sound a lot like my dog when he hears a siren. It's a good harmony we get going on those days.
I'm a big fan of Jewel's voice. I feel that I hear her soul as she sings.
Janna, thanks for your support and prayers. Hugs :)
Annie Lennox. She has a beautiful voice.
I'd sing like this bloke:

then I wouldn't be in all the trouble I am in today.
Christina Aguilera or Sarah McLaughlin. Love 'em both...very soulful, beautiful, and Christina's got that grittiness to her voice with amazing range.
La la la....
I'd be happy to sing like anyone other than me. I even scare the dog! It's really THAT bad.

Wow, I would just like to be able to hold a tune! But I love Patsy Cline and maybe a little Rosemary Clooney for fun:)

Like Prince, for his sass.
Julie Andrews, for her clarity (and because it would work with my very English accent)
Tom Waits, for when I have a cold.
Barbra Streisand, for sure. That's me belting out "Don't Rain On My Parade" lol
Sing???? Wow. I want to be Julie Andrews so I can sing all her songs@
Hmm. I'll have to think about this.
Easy. Ella Fitzgerald. Are there other choices?
Amy Lee from Evanescence. :) Fun question! One I actually didn't have to think too hard on, too, lol! And I awarded you a blog award over at my place!
Christina Aguilera. She can hit those high notes like it's nobody's business. Totally awesome.
Maria Callas. Gorgeous.
Or really, just about anyone. I can't sing at all!
Patsy Cline
I'm eclectic. How about Pat Benatar? Or Christine McVie? Or Faith Hill? Or Kelly Clarkson?
B.B. King. Listen to "Live at the Regal" and you'll know why. So much soul.
