[F]oto Friday

He'd been waiting for weeks, months, for snow of the right consistency. It had to be heavy, with just enough moisture, to really pack together well.

And so the day of the perfect snowfall, he couldn't get outside fast enough. In his haste, he forgot to don a hat -- but it really didn't matter, for his thoughts weren't on the bitter cold. Instead, his mind lost itself to the memories of snowy pasts, when he'd built snowmen of grand size, and even grander importance. Each year, he built them bigger, sturdier. He gave them greater personalities, fancier plummage.

Why did he do it? Lots of really good, really deep reasons, just like you'd expect. And I'll give them to you now.

Because the snowmen he created, every year, reminded him of the simpler days of... because it was relaxing to... aw, heck. It was because he had no friends. And the snowmen filled that void. Yada yada.

He stood back, rubbing his hands together for warmth, admiring his newest creation.

"I shall call him Sam," he said to no one. "And Sam will be my best pal."

This is one of my brothers-in-law, from two winters ago. I poke fun because he's a good sport and I know he'll be tickled.

Thanks for making great fodder for my blog, fella. ;)

Brrrrr! Snow! I haven't seen real snow in over 20 years!

What a huge snowman!

I'm fascinated by snow, sand and ice sculptures. Such talented people who do them!

Hope Sam and your BIL had a long and happy visit!

We've gotten lots of flurries here, but nowhere near that much. Which I am grateful for :-)

Have a great weekend!

I'll bet that's one friendship that didn't last long, alas the heat got to it.

That's so cute! I think it's great when men can get out there and have fun like that. :-)

Donna - Can you believe how big that snowman was?

Linda - I hope not to see that much snow for awhile.

Jewel - We may get some tomorrow. :( Just when we were warming up for spring.

Terri - Thanks, lady. You too!

Joanne - Indeed. ;)

FringeGirl - You said it. :)

Jessica - They sure did that day! My BIL and hubby also made a giant "hay bale" of snow. They were working on the frozen lake in our cove, and the bale of snow made the ice start cracking! They got out of there lickety split quick.

LOL.

But I hate to tell you, perfect snowman weather does NOT qualify as bitter cold. When it's cold enough that the snow is perfectly dry and can be easily whipped up by the wind, THEN it's bitterly cold.

Or better yet, when it's cold enough that your breath freezes in your nostrils and your eyeballs hurt. I mean, if you use up the term "bitter cold" for the wimpy stuff, what's left to describe real cold?

;o)

I hope I don't see anymore snow this year. But we didn't get to make a snowman, with all the mountains of snow we had. I'm never too excited to go out in the cold, but I'm sure my daughter would have loved it. Next year.

I never quite made any magnificent snowmen, but I did try my hand at a snow cave once. It was the terrible blizzard of 2000, and there was snow to go around. The snow cave never really worked out though, so I surrendered to the comfort of a steaming hot chocolate and a movie- wrapped up in heavy blankets of course. :)

Thanks for stopping by my site. I always love to have new eyes around!

Must've been fun pushing that lower snowball around. That much snow gets pretty heavy. It's been a while since I've made a snowman, but my husband made one with the girls this year.

Very impressive snowman, formidable. Hope you have a warm, sunny weekend, though.

Capri K - From your lips to God's ears!

Janet - Eh. A mere technicality. ;)

Lori - Me, either. I usually let hubby take our girls out to play in the snow. I like to stay in where it's warm. :)

Melanie - Thanks! It feels better and better all the time.

Melissa - Can you believe how huge that dude was?

Janna Leadbetter said...

Chad - We had a neighbor who made a fairly decent bunker-type thing last year. It was crazy!

T. Anne - :D

Melanie - wOOt!

Lynnette - I wondered if they just carried snow to it, packing it on?

Rebecca - Now that we're all ready for spring - and had such weather, too - it's turned cold again, and they're calling for snow tomorrow. I really hope it doesn't find us!

That's some tremendous girth. The snowman, not the brother in law.
